Automated Regression Testing for PAS Conversion

The Company

The client is a not-for-profit fraternal benefit society and a Fortune 500 Financial Services organization that offers financial products and services including life insurance, annuities, disability income insurance, health insurance and bank products to its nearly 3 million members.

Objective

  • Automated Regression Testing for PAS conversion project:
    • For Multiple PAS.
    • Reduced testing time.
    • Better testing accuracy
    • No defect leakage during regression

The Challenge

  • Making new business contracts for any product is a huge manual work.
  • It was difficult to create contracts especially at the time of Functional testing where 100 of scenarios need to be created in short time on multiple platforms with:
    • Demand to reduce the Testing time
    • Better accuracy and
    • No defect leakage During regression testing.

The Solution

  • Coforge created robots using UFT for entry of multiple transactions on mainframe and web platforms which was a major accelerator for test data creation and setup. The design patterns can be reused elsewhere.
  • This earlier start to testing ensured a cleaner code move to the testing environment. This overall reduced the whole test cycle as there were fewer defects to fix during the test execution. Most of the defect got caught in early stage of project life cycle
  • In the process of Automation 67 transactions were automated. Out of 67 transactions, the Automated Regression Testing for PAS Conversion full New Business (Contract Creation process) Process was automated which:
    • A modern PAS Automation (Web base application)
    • App agent: Interface Automation (Web Base application)
    • Interface (Mainframe base application)
  • The process:
    • Reads the input data from the external sheet.
    • Inputs data on the application under test
    • Scripts execute and results are stored.
    • Test results can be in the form of Spreadsheet or screen shots.

Technology Stack

Applications in Scope:

  • HP UFT
  • Mainframe -
    • Data Mining Process
    • Batch Cycle Automation.
    • Compare process.
    • Report Generation.
    • Execution of transaction.
  • Test Case Result update: HP ALM

The Impact – Amplifying Outcomes

  • 98% Of the Transaction Automated
  • 40% time saving using UFT scripts
  • Early detection of errors: Saves 40% of defects in testing cycle which saves 15% of Testing cycle time
  • Go or no Go decision: Reports helps in making Go or no Go decisions
  • Analysis time of developer for the differences in regression is saved by 70%
  • 100% Accuracy
